Today AM, we visited Bharatiya Grameen Mahila Sangh or BGMS (National Association of Rural Women India), founded in 1955, is a non-political and non-sectarian national organization with branches all over India, in 14 states and union territories. It is affiliated with the Associated Country Women of the World (ACWW), world largest organization for rural women, which in turn, is a consultative body for UNO, UNESCO, WHO, and ILO. In 2009, Taru approached them to work on community context analysis.
Prior to this, they have worked on project for WaterAid and have studied 15 slums in Indore. BGMS is focused on advocating safe water.

This picture shows the meeting we had with this group of women, where mainly told us what they are doing, what are the main problems they are facing in their community and how they are organized.

BAJARANG NAGAR (A very good example of a community that want to progress)

The following pictures shows the how the water is provided through the use of pipes that are installed outside the houses, then they must use utensils to collect water and use it. It is very important to mention that the water is supplied only a few hours a day, which means that they must be attentive to when the water is provisioned to them.

The right picture shows how they wash clothes. It is interesting to note how easy life can be for you.

The name of the man who appears to my left is Kakashi. He is the leader of this community. It's exciting to see how they are well organized and work hard to maintain control over water use and maintain their community very clean.

VYAS NAGAR (A very poor slum where has been so hard to move them to a better stage)

After visiting BAJARANG NAGAR Slum we went to visit the slum called VYAS NAGAR, this is an extremely poor slum. When we arrived to this slum a lot of people start coming to where we was and then some of them started to scream  and they ask to GBMS people we left the place because we were not welcome.

It was a tense moment and we had to get into the car and get out of that place. It was a stressed time.

I couldn't take many pictures. I just got some pictures of the entrance to the slum.

PM

We met AAS organization which is run by Mr. Waseem Iqbal and this organization specialises in community development. Water management is one of the issues that the NGO deals with. AAS has done the baseline study on water management in three communities for TARU and is working on advocating "Wise Water Management" in those communities. However, they haven't planned for any impact analysis of their intervention in the communities. They get volunteers from colleges to work with them. AAS has partnered with TARU, ISET, CEPRD and SRC.

We visited SHIV NAGAR Community (unfortunately I do not have Pictures of this community).

Ater that we visited RAHUL NAGAR Community. The name of the red dress in the below photo is Guddi, she is one of the most important leaders of this community and she was selected by some Indian political party, to be part of them.

    1. HI Anna, there is a big issue, also its make me realize how much lucky do we are. They have a real problem here. I'm working very hard with the team to get something useful for them. In fact we realize that the toolkit in the SOW could be not so effective, so we make some changes to get something with a deeper impact than was was stated in the original SOW.
