Today we went to meet with two organizations, Seva Suravhi and SRC. Mainly we visited the offices of CRS where we had the opportunity to talk about their activitiesand how they have faced the problem of water in their communities. We met Mr. Kamal Kalwani from Seva Surabhi Organization and Mr. Siddharth Jain from SRC Organization
Since its inception in 1985, SRC in Indore has been providing academic and techno-pedagogical resource support to literacy programmes in state of Madhya Pradesh. Its support systems include preparation of teaching-learning materials and training materials, training for literacy functionaries, evaluation of Total Literacy Campaign and Post Literacy Campaign, production and distribution of literature for neo-literates, conducting research work, etc. As a part of their literacy program is water education. They have developed reading material to educate children and adults. They have also partnered with Taru to Community Context Analysis for one of the communities (Mahalaxmi Nagar). After the analysis, SRC worked on sensitizing the community on water management. They are yet to move into the implementation phase.
SRC Head Quarters

After visiting the SRC offices we went to take a look fo a middle class community houses (MAHALAXMI NAGAR) where they showed us the systems used to recharge the water wells.

Two interesting things I saw in the visit were:
They use two different types of washbasin, one for cooking and one for washing dishes. The reason for this is that the water used cooking washbasin is reused to recharge the water wells.

RECHANGING CHAMBER

The second is the system of collecting rainwater. They do recollect all the rainwater through the use of pipes coming from the top roof, into the chamber recharge wells.

Another interesting thing they mentioned is there are some community's houses that do not use the recharging water wells system and they have noticed that those houses get without water sooner than those who use recharging systems.

After mid day we visited an extremely poor slums (GANESH NAGAR)  where their illiteracy level is so high. As you can see in the photos below, there is garbage in every place. As they are not well organized, they are not take care about the garbage. Even when they have been provided with educational material from SRC, due they illiteracy level they have not yet realized the garbage problem. I can not find another explanation for that.

This is the entrance to the poor slum.

The below pictures show you how they receive the water. There  are  pipes  outside the houses where  they  receive the water in some period of times, about one hour at day. It is very hard for us we always have water available, how hard should  be  for this people to deal with the water problem.  Maybe we can start thinking more seriously about  the real problems that some communities are facing with.

Originally there was farms here, and as the Indore population was increasing fast, they start using this lands to stablished their houses. The pictures below are old wells not already used, but used as garbage collection deposit. Of corse the you can imagine the big problem here, having this in the middle of their communities.
